Sonia Vora

Sonia Vora is an equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers beverage stocks in the consumer sector. She joined Morningstar in 2014.

Vora holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago.

Jonathan Wallace

Jonathan Wallace is a manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers multiasset and alternative strategies.

Prior to joining Morningstar in 2017, Wallace worked at the Lincoln Financial Group for nearly 13 years as a senior retirement consultant. In this role, Wallace managed communications and education for employer-sponsored retirement plan participants.

Wallace holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a minor in sales and agribusiness management, and a master’s degree in agribusiness, both from the University of Florida. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations.

Debbie Wang

Debbie Wang is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers the medical-device, diagnostics, and animal health industries. Previously, she was an associate director of equity analysis for Morningstar, leading the healthcare team.

Before joining Morningstar in 2002, Wang was a vice president and senior brand strategist for Leo Burnett. During her tenure at Leo Burnett, she led brand strategy on a variety of accounts, including Allstate, Amoco, McDonald's, Heinz, Smucker’s, Pepto-Bismol, and Celebrex.

Wang holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Colgate University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Rachel Wang

Rachel Wang is the director of manager research for China at Morningstar (Shenzhen) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. Her main research responsibilities include qualitative research for funds and fund companies. She is also responsible for providing investment thought leadership on topics relevant to investors in China. Wang writes regular columns for primary financial publications and often provides commentary for various radio and television outlets.

Wang joined Morningstar China in 2005 and was engaged in the establishment of Morningstar's fund evaluation and research business. Specifically, she was responsible for enhancing the Morningstar Categories and localizing Morningstar's rating methodology for mutual funds in China.

Wang holds a master's degree of economics in statistics from the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. She has 12 years of securities and fund research experience and is qualified for practicing in China's fund industry.

Nick Watson

Nick Watson is an associate manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He assists in the coverage of U.S. equity funds.

Watson joined Morningstar after graduating from the University of Chicago in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Jimmy Wen

Jimmy Wen is a manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers equity mutual funds.

Before joining Morningstar in 2017, Wen spent more than three years as an engineer at Boeing, working in both the defense and commercial departments of the aerospace company. He designed airplane parts using CAD (computer-aided design) and was nominated to a rotation program, where he worked with mechanics and airline customers.

Wen holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics from the University of Washington.

Steve Wendel

Steve Wendel is head of behavioral science for Morningstar, where he leads a team of behavioral scientists and practitioners who conduct original research to help people invest and manage their money more effectively. Before assuming his current role in 2015, he was principal scientist for HelloWallet, a company that specializes in web and mobile financial wellness programs, where he studied savings behavior and coordinated the research efforts of HelloWallet’s advisory board. Morningstar owned HelloWallet from 2014 to 2017.

His latest book, Improving Employee Benefits, shows HR practitioners how they can use behavioral economics to help employees to take action on their benefits. In 2013, he published Designing for Behavior Change, which describes HelloWallet’s step-by-step approach to applying behavioral economics and psychology to product design.

Wendel holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and a doctorate from the University of Maryland, where he analyzed the dynamics of behavioral change over time.

Wendel is also the founder of the Action Design Network, a nonprofit organization that teaches members how use behavioral economics and psychology in product design. Matthew Wilkinson

Matthew Wilkinson is an associate portfolio manager for Morningstar Investment Management Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Before Joining Morningstar in 2015, Wilkinson worked for Propex Derivatives in the fixed-interest and equity futures market as a trader analysing and managing exposures. Prior to that, he had a career in engineering, working on local and overseas projects, most recently in commercial management roles.

Wilkinson holds a master's degree in applied finance from Macquarie University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Sydney.

Kathryn Wing

Kathryn Wing is an associate quantitative analyst, quantitative research, for Morningstar Inc. She conducts research focused on mutual funds’ performance and risk.

Before joining Morningstar in 2015, Wing worked for a think tank in Washington, D.C., writing about youth-related policy. From 2016-18, she was an analyst on Morningstar’s Manager Selection, Manager Research team. She conducted quantitative and qualitative reviews of mutual funds for defined-contribution plans and assisted with menu design, monitoring, and fund selection.

Wing holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and information systems from Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business.

Dawit Woldemariam

Dawit Woldemariam is an equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He helps cover the industrials sector.

Prior to joining the industrials team in 2018, Woldemariam was a client service manager on Morningstar’s equity research sales team, where he engaged buy-side clients for two years.

Woldemariam holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and master’s degrees in business administration and finance from the University of Cincinnati.

Gregg Wolper

Gregg Wolper, Ph.D., is a senior manager research analyst, equity strategies, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers equity strategies and sits on the Morningstar Analyst Ratings Committee for international-equity funds. Wolper covers a variety of international- and domestic-equity strategies from asset managers including Invesco, Lazard, Neuberger Berman, Sound Shore, and Vontobel. He is the lead analyst on Oppenheimer international funds and IVA. Wolper joined Morningstar as a closed-end fund analyst in 1992 and has held several positions within the company, including associate director of fund analysis and editor of Morningstar Closed-End Funds.

Wolper holds a bachelor’s degree in history, with high honors, from the University of Michigan. He also holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in history from the University of Chicago, with a specialization in U.S. foreign relations.

Michael Wong

Michael Wong, CFA, CPA, is director of equity research, financial services, North America, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. Michael previously served as chair of the valuation committee. Before assuming his current role in 2017, he was a senior equity analyst, covering investment banks and brokerages. Before joining Morningstar in 2008, he worked in corporate and public accounting.

Wong holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with concentrations in accounting, corporate finance, and financial services from San Francisco State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a Certified Public Accountant. Wong has also passed the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams.

Wong won the “Technology Thought Leadership” award at the 2016 WealthManagement.com Industry Awards for his report, The Financial Services Observer: The U.S. Department of Labor’s Fiduciary Rule for Advisors Could Reshape the Financial Sector. In 2011, he ranked second in the Investment Services industry in The Wall Street Journal’s annual “Best on the Street” analysts survey. Wong was awarded the summer 2005 Johnson & Johnson Institute of Management Accountants CFM Gold Medal.

Shannon Yan

Shannon Yan is a manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers equity strategies.

Prior to her current role, Yan worked as a data analyst on the commodities and energy team and was also a product consultant for Morningstar Office, the firm’s platform for independent financial advisors. She joined Morningstar in 2014.

Yan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a Level II candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst® program.

Janet Yang Rohr, CFA

Janet Yang Rohr, CFA, is director of multi-asset and alternative strategies for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She is responsible for Morningstar Analyst Rating assignments for multi-asset and alternative strategies globally and oversees a team of analysts who cover these strategies. She also covers a variety of asset-allocation strategies, including target-date funds and 529 college-savings plans from John Hancock, State Street Global Advisors, BlackRock, and other asset managers.

Yang Rohr was a strategist, senior analyst, and director of Morningstar's multi-asset strategies manager research team before being appointed to her current role in 2016. Before joining Morningstar in 2010, Yang was vice president and investment product manager for multimanager funds and solutions as well as target-date funds for Northern Trust Global Investments in Chicago. She also served as a manager research analyst for Aon Investment Consulting, where she specialized in manager due diligence and the development of the practice's quantitative research process.

Yang Rohr holds a bachelor's degree in English and economics from Northwestern University and a master's degree in business administration, with concentrations in finance and entrepreneurship, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. In 2014, Institutional Investor magazine named Yang among its Rising Stars of Mutual Funds.

Matthew Young

Matthew Young, CFA, is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers transportation and logistics firms.

Before joining Morningstar in 2010, Young spent five years as an equity research associate at William Blair, where he covered logistics and commercial-services firms.

Young holds a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College and a master’s degree in business administration, with concentrations in finance and accounting, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Shannon Zimmerman

Shannon Zimmerman is a director of manager selection for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He is responsible for manager assessment and selection, as well as portfolio construction.

Zimmerman has over 20 years of investment industry experience. He initially joined Morningstar in 2002 as a fund analyst. Prior to rejoining the firm, he worked for The Motley Fool as a senior analyst, advisor, and portfolio manager from 2004 through 2010. Prior to his current role, Zimmerman served as associate director of active strategies research and director of training for Morningstar's manager research team. He covered domestic- and international-equity strategies and served as the lead analyst for the Oakmark, ClearBridge, and John Hancock fund families. He also oversaw the manager research analyst training program.

Zimmerman holds a bachelor’s degree from Rollins College and a doctorate from the University of Georgia.

Emory Zink

Emory Zink is an associate director, global multi-asset and alternative funds, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Before joining Morningstar in 2015, Zink was an investment consultant for Aon Hewitt. Previously, she taught college-level humanities and composition courses.

Zink holds a bachelor's degree in comparative literature from Indiana University, a master’s degree in comparative literature from Dartmouth College, and a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in finance and global business, from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.
