Monika Calay

Monika Calay is director of passive strategies research, Europe, for Morningstar UK Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She leads the firm's passive strategies EMEA team, specializing in researching and rating index mutual funds and exchange-traded funds.

Having started her career with Bloomberg, Calay joined Morningstar in 2015 as a passive strategies analyst. Three years later, she left for Vanguard, where she worked as a senior ETF analyst and then as a portfolio consultant within the firm's portfolio review department. In her role, she was responsible for delivering investment research and insights to Vanguard's institutional and retail intermediary clients.

Calay holds a master's degree with distinction in data science from University College London.

Susan Dziubinski

Susan Dziubinski is an investment specialist with more than 30 years of experience at Morningstar covering stocks, funds, and portfolios. She previously managed the company's newsletter and books businesses and led the team that created content for Morningstar's Investing Classroom. She has also edited Morningstar FundInvestor and managed the launch of the Morningstar Rating for stocks. Since 2013, Dziubinski has been delivering Morningstar's long-term perspective and research to investors on Morningstar.com.

Stephen Ellis

Stephen Ellis is an energy and utilities strategist for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc., covering midstream companies. Ellis is a former member of Morningstar’s China Economic Committee, which provides research on the long-term outlook for the Chinese economy.

Before assuming his current role in 2017, he was director of equity research for financial services and a senior equity analyst. He is also a former editor of the Morningstar Opportunistic Investor newsletter and a former member of the Economic Moat Committee, a group of senior members of the equity research team responsible for reviewing all Economic MoatTM and Moat TrendTM ratings issued by Morningstar.

Prior to joining Morningstar in 2007, he worked as a freelance analyst for The Motley Fool and spent three years working in project and financial analysis for Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), a supplier of geographic information system software and geodatabase management applications.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Redlands.

Dylan Finley

Dylan Finley is an equity analyst, healthcare, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Finley holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Charles Fishman

Charles Fishman, CFA, is an equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers utilities.

Before joining Morningstar in 2012, Fishman spent 12 years as an analyst covering utilities and alternative energy stocks for A.G. Edwards, Piper Jaffray, and Pritchard Capital. Before becoming an analyst, Fishman was the president of the subsidiaries of two NYSE-listed companies that were early entrants to the independent power industry. Both companies underwent initial public offerings during his 13 years as a senior manager.

Fishman holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Purdue University, a master’s degree in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

William Fitzsimmons

William Fitzsimmons is an equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers technology companies.

Before joining Morningstar in 2016, Fitzsimmons interned at the BlueCross BlueShield Association for two summers and conducted healthcare sector analysis. Additionally, he interned at Ronin Capital, LLC for two summers.

Fitzsimmons holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Boston College.

Adam Fleck

Adam Fleck is the director of equity research, ESG for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He leads Morningstar's environmental, social, and governance equity research efforts, including collaboration with Sustainalytics, along with a team of analysts in Chicago and Amsterdam.

Before assuming his current role, Fleck was Morningstar's regional director of equity research in Australia and New Zealand and director of North American consumer equity research. He joined Morningstar in 2006.

Fleck holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated cum laude. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Elizabeth Foos

Beth Foos is an associate director, fixed-income strategies, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers fixed income, focusing primarily on municipal-bond strategies. Before joining the manager research team in 2014, she was a municipal credit analyst.

Foos has more than 15 years of experience in public finance. Before joining Morningstar in 2011, she was an analyst for Moody's Investors Service and a consultant to local governments for the Michigan Municipal League. Foos has also held various roles in marketing and public relations for Time Inc. and Teach for America.

Foos holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Michigan.

Catalina Franco-Cicero

Catalina Franco-Cicero, MS, CFP, joined Tobias Financial Advisors in October 2017 as a Financial Advisor. In this role, Catalina’s responsibilities include client relationship management, financial plan design, advisory of retirement plans--401ks--for small businesses, and delivery of financial wellness education programming to their employees. In addition, she also works with Spanish-language clients and serves as a mentor for the next generation advisors on the team. Catalina switched careers to the financial services industry in 2011. Jose Garcia-Zarate

Jose Garcia Zarate is associate director of passive strategies for Morningstar UK Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He was previously a senior analyst on the team, which covers exchange-traded funds, exchange-traded products, and index funds.

Before joining Morningstar in 2010, Garcia Zarate spent seven years as a senior European government-bond analyst for 4Cast, an economic consulting firm and financial market research provider. Before that, he was a macroeconomic analyst and eurozone sovereign-bond analyst for S&P MMS and a macroeconomic country analyst for Hilfe Research, an economic consulting firm in London. He began his career as an analyst intern for Spain’s economic ministry, working in the external trade department in the ministry’s Chicago office.

Garcia Zarate holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from San Pablo CEU University in Madrid, a diploma in politics from the London School of Economics, and a diploma in psychology from Birkbeck, University of London.

Joe Gemino

Joe Gemino, CPA, is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.. He covers Canadian oil and gas companies.

Before joining Morningstar in 2015, Gemino held equity analyst roles for Goldman Sachs and Gate City Capital Management. Before business school, he was a technical accountant for Citigroup and Northern Trust.

Gemino holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame along with a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds the Certified Public Accountant designation.

George Georgiev

George Georgiev, CFA, is a manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He is responsible for conducting research on U.S. and international-equity fund managers and their funds.

Before joining Morningstar in 2017, Georgiev worked as an analyst for Henderson Global Investors in Chicago.

Georgiev holds a master’s degree in business administration from DePaul University, graduating with highest distinction, and a bachelor’s degree in business from American University in Bulgaria. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation

Margaret Giles

Margaret Giles is a data journalist for Morningstar. She covers IPOs, common questions from investors, and portfolio decisions, among other topics.

Giles joined Morningstar in 2018 through the Morningstar Development Program for new graduates. She worked as a support representative for Morningstar Direct clients. After a year in the role, Giles transitioned to her current position in content development for Morningstar.com.

Giles has bachelor's degrees in economics and Spanish from Grinnell College.

Seth Goldstein

Seth Goldstein, CFA, is an equities strategist for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers agriculture, chemicals, and lithium companies in the basic materials sector and is also the chair of Morningstar's electric vehicle committee.

Prior to assuming the equity analyst role in 2017, Goldstein was an associate equity analyst covering the basic-materials sector. Before joining Morningstar, Goldstein was a senior financial analyst for Oasis Financial, a financial analyst for Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and a field operations supervisor for the U.S. Census Bureau.

Goldstein holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University and a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in finance, from the University of Iowa. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Danny Goode

Danny Goode is an equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers oil services.

Before assuming his current position in 2016, he was an associate client service manager. He joined Morningstar as a product consultant in 2015.

Goode holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance and banking, from the University of Missouri. He is a Level II candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst® program.

Robby Greengold

Robby Greengold is a strategist for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers equity strategies from asset managers including Fidelity, PGIM Investments, and Ivy Funds.

Greengold worked in corporate finance and investment research roles prior to joining Morningstar in 2017. He holds a bachelor's degree in music composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Business Administration from the Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Charles Gross

Charles Gross is a director of equity research, special projects, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers paper and packaging companies. Gross was previously a data analyst at Morningstar.

Before joining Morningstar in 2013, he was a CME Group Fellow for the Margolis Market Information Laboratory.

Gross holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois. He is a Level III candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst® program.

Yousuf Hafuda

Yousuf Hafuda is an equity analyst on the financials team for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Before joining Morningstar in 2016, Hafuda was a member of the Grinnell College debate team and comanaged a portion of Grinnell’s endowment as a member of the Student Endowment Investment Group (SEIG). Upon joining Morningstar, Hafuda was a member of the Morningstar Managed Portfolios support team before transitioning to his current role in July 2017.

Hafuda holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Grinnell College.

Jon Hale

Jon Hale, Ph.D., CFA, is director of sustainability research for the Americas at Sustainalytics. He directs the company’s research initiatives on sustainable investing, beginning with the launch of the Morningstar Sustainability Rating™ for funds in 2016.

Before assuming this role in 2016, Hale was director of manager research for Morningstar, where he led approximately 60 manager research analysts based in North America and oversaw the team’s operations, thought leadership, and manager research coverage across asset classes.

Hale first joined Morningstar in 1995 as a mutual fund analyst and helped launch the firm’s institutional investment consulting business in 1998. He left the company in 1999 to work for Domini Social Investments before rejoining Morningstar as a senior investment consultant in 2001. He became managing consultant in 2009 and head of the investment advisory unit in 2014.

Chris Higgins

Chris Higgins, CFA, is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers aerospace and defense companies, airports, and airlines.

Before joining Morningstar in 2015, Higgins spent eight years working for Airbus Group in both the United States and Europe. While at Airbus Group, he held a variety of positions, ranging from corporate development to investor relations.

Higgins began career in strategy consulting, where he consulted leading U.S. and European aerospace and defense prime contractors. During his time in consulting, he led teams that solved business challenges ranging from merger and acquisition decisions to new product launches.

Higgins holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rhodes College, where he graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and a master’s degree in finance from The Henley Business School in the United Kingdom. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Richard Hilgert

Richard Hilgert is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers automotive stocks.

Hilgert has more than 25 years of experience in automotive industry research, analysis, and forecasting. Before joining Morningstar in 2010, he founded Automotive Financial Research, LLC, a firm that published financial research reports focusing on automotive companies and special industry topics. Before founding Automotive Financial Research, Hilgert provided automotive industry research for Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Troy, Michigan. From 2004 through 2007, he was director/lead analyst, responsible for Fitch’s credit ratings of the domestic automotive supplier sector.

Before joining Fitch, Hilgert covered automotive stocks for Oppenheimer for seven years in Detroit. Previously, he worked in the equity research departments of Stifel Nicolaus from 1995 to 1997 and A.G. Edwards from 1989 to 1995, covering automotive and other industrial companies.

Hilgert holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Illinois Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in finance from St. Louis University. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Analysts and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Michael Hodel

Michael Hodel, CFA, is director of communications services equity research for Morningstar Research Services, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers U.S. telecom service providers and related firms, including AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast. His team covers media companies, global telecom service providers, and owners of telecom infrastructure, such as wireless towers and data centers.

Hodel joined Morningstar in 1998. Prior to his current position, he spent two years as a portfolio manager for Morningstar Investment Management, LLC. Previously, he served as a technology strategist responsible for telecom research, chair of Morningstar’s Economic Moat Committee, and a senior member of Morningstar’s corporate credit ratings initiative.

Hodel holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, with highest honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Jeff Holt

Jeff Holt, CFA, is director of multi-asset and alternative strategies for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers target-date funds and other multi-asset funds from various asset managers.

Before joining Morningstar in 2014, Holt spent nearly nine years at Jeffrey Slocum & Associates (since acquired by Pavilion Financial), where he was responsible for investment research to support the firm’s defined-contribution practice. He covered target-date funds, stable value funds, and other asset classes specific to defined-contribution clients.

Holt holds a bachelor’s degree in management, with a concentration in corporate finance, from Brigham Young University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Brett Horn

Brett Horn, CFA, is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers insurers and credit bureaus. He also oversees the equity research team’s stewardship rating methodology.

Before joining Morningstar in 2006, Horn worked in the banking industry for about a decade, most recently as a commercial loan officer for First Bank, where he was responsible for underwriting loans and managing relationships with middle market clients. Before that, Horn worked for Mizuho Corporate Bank, where he managed loan portfolios and client relationships, primarily with Fortune 500 companies.

Horn holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance, from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. He ranked first in the business and industrial services industry in The Wall Street Journal’s annual “Best on the Street” analysts survey in 2013, the last year the survey was conducted.

Burkett Huey

Madeline Hume

Madeline Hume is a NEXT senior research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers new and emerging asset classes for Morningstar, including cryptocurrencies.

Before assuming her current role in 2021, Hume was a manager research analyst at Morningstar, covering multi-asset strategies.

Tayfun Icten

Tayfun Icten is a senior analyst, manager research, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers alternative strategies.

Before joining Morningstar in 2016, Icten was a managing member of Alpha Performance Partners, an alternative investment specialist firm. From 2004 to 2009, he served as director/portfolio manager for XE Capital Management LLC, a fixed-income, multi-strategy hedge fund where he managed $150 million multi-strategy portfolio. Before joining XE in 2004, Icten was a vice president/portfolio constructor for Zurich Capital Markets (ZCM) Asset Management Group. At ZCM, he also performed due diligence on the firm’s overall hedge fund exposure, including structured product deals.

Earlier in his career, Icten was a derivatives trader for Millburn Corporation; a research analyst for the CISDM (the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets, a university sponsored-alternative investment research center) where CAIA Association originated; and an assistant bond trader for JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Istanbul.

Icten holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, cum laude, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He also attended the Bosphorus University Physics Department (the top Physics program in Turkey) before he transitioned to finance.

Kristoffer Inton

Kristoffer Inton is an equity strategist, ESG, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers cannabis companies.

Before joining Morningstar in 2013, Inton was an investment banking associate for Guggenheim Securities in New York. Previously, he was an investment banking analyst for Merrill Lynch in Chicago and New York.

Inton holds a bachelor's degree in finance with high honors from the University of Illinois and a Master of Business Administration with distinction from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Ryan Jackson

Ryan Jackson is a manager research analyst, passive strategies, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers passive equity strategies.

Prior to assuming his current role, Jackson served as a customer support representative for Morningstar Direct.

Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated in the spring of 2019.

Eric Jacobson

Eric Jacobson is director of manager research, active funds research for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He is a voting member of the Morningstar Analyst Ratings Committee for U.S. and international fixed-income strategies and shares responsibility for determining coverage and research priorities. Jacobson has focused on a variety of taxable, tax-exempt, and nontraditional fixed-income strategies, including several from asset managers such as Pimco, BlackRock, PGIM, and Guggenheim. He has also covered strategies from J.P. Morgan, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, TCW, Vanguard, Loomis Sayles, Putnam, T. Rowe Price, American Century, Eaton Vance, FPA, and American Funds. He is the team's lead analyst on Pimco.

From 2006 through mid-2008, Jacobson was director of fixed-income strategies for Morningstar Indexes and was responsible for the design and launch of Morningstar's original suite of U.S., global, and emerging-markets bond indexes. Before assuming that role, he was a senior analyst, associate director, and fixed-income editorial director for the fund research team. Before joining Morningstar in 1995 as a closed-end fund analyst, he worked for Kemper Financial Services.

Jacobson holds degrees in political science, Hebrew and Semitic studies, and integrated liberal studies from the University of Wisconsin.

Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson, CFA, is the head of client solutions, working with asset-management clients to leverage Morningstar's capabilities in advancing our shared mission of empowering investor success.

Prior to assuming his current role in 2022, Johnson was the director of global exchange-traded fund and passive strategies research within Morningstar's manager research group. Earlier in his tenure in the manager research organization, he served as the director of ETF research for Europe and Asia. He also previously served as a senior equity analyst, covering the agriculture and chemicals industries. Before joining Morningstar in 2006, he worked as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley.

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. In 2015, Fund Directions and Fund Action named Johnson among the 2015 Rising Stars of Mutual Funds.

Benjamin Joseph

Benjamin Joseph is a senior manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He covers fixed-income mutual funds.

Before joining Morningstar in 2017, Joseph spent two years managing a global commodities research company in Paris. Before that, he spent more than five years in the hedge fund industry as an analyst and a fund of hedge funds portfolio manager in Paris and New York.

Joseph holds a specialized postgraduate degree in financial techniques from ESSEC Business School, a master’s degree in business administration from Université Paris-Dauphine, and a bachelor’s degree in international business from Regent's Business School London. He also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.

Jaime M. Katz

Jaime M. Katz, CFA, is a senior equity analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers home improvement retailers and travel and leisure.

Before joining Morningstar in 2011, Katz was an associate for Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank. She also worked in equity research for William Blair for three years and spent three years in asset management at Mesirow Financial.

Katz holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dan Kemp

Dan Kemp is the global chief investment officer for Morningstar’s Investment Management group for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Dan leads Morningstar’s 20-strong investment management team for the EMEA region, working with advisers and institutions to help them deliver world-class investment solutions to investors.

Dan joined Morningstar in 2014 as co-Head of Investment Consulting and Portfolio Management in the EMEA region. He previously served with Albemarle Street Partners, an investment consultancy partnership that he co-founded. Prior to Albemarle, he worked for Saltus Partners, managing the firm’s flagship Saltus Multi Asset Class Fund. He has also worked as fund manager and head of fund research for Williams de Broë (formerly Christows).

Dan has 19 years’ experience in research, investment management and investment consulting. He has managed a wide variety of portfolios, specialising in multi-asset risk graded products. He is also a well-known commentator on investment issues.

Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from King’s College London. He also holds the Investment Management Certificate, the Securities Institute Diploma and the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate.

Jason Kephart

Jason Kephart, CFA, is director of multi-asset ratings, global manager research, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc.

Before joining Morningstar in 2014, Kephart spent seven years as a journalist for InvestmentNews, Fund Action, and SmartMoney, reporting primarily on the mutual fund and exchange-traded fund industries.

Jerry Kerns

William Kerwin

William Kerwin, CFA, is an equity analyst on the technology team for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar Inc. He covers the IT supply chain, hardware, and semiconductor stocks.

Before joining the firm full-time in 2019, Kerwin was an intern on Morningstar's basic materials team.

Kerwin holds a Bachelor of Science in economics with a math emphasis and French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Brian Killian

Brian Killian is a director, manager selection, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He is responsible for manager assessment and selection across several asset classes, as well as portfolio analysis and retirement plan design. Killian works with clients to create fiduciary programs including selecting and monitoring investments for retirement plan sponsors.

Killian joined Morningstar in 1998 as an analyst and later worked as a project manager in the institutional services group, leading client implementations and developing client reporting processes. In 2000, he joined Morningstar Associates’ institutional investment consulting group as a senior investment analyst responsible for investment monitoring, research, and reporting. In 2010, he was a senior investment consultant with primary responsibilities for several large institutional defined-contribution and defined-benefit clients.

Killian holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and computer applications from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in business administration with concentrations in finance and strategy, execution, and valuation from DePaul University.

Hyunmin Kim

Hyunmin Kim is a manager research analyst for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. She covers multi-asset and alternative strategies. Hyunmin holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and music from Grinnell College.

Russel Kinnel

Russel Kinnel is director of ratings, manager research, for Morningstar Research Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. He heads the North American Medalist Rating Committee, which vets the Morningstar Medalist Rating™ for funds. He is the editor of Morningstar FundInvestor, a monthly newsletter, and has published a number of prominent studies of the fund industry covering subjects such as manager investment, expenses, and investor returns.
